IT'S BIG WORD DAY...............

It's big word day - declared by Lynne and I am responding to that prompt................

Big words enchant and captivate me - I love the sound, the linkage of the letters, the shape of the written word and of course the meaning.  It really isn't any use knowing big words and using them if you don't know the meaning of them.

My prompt is going to consist of six big words and my challenge to you is to find the meaning of the words.

VERISIMILITUDE

PROGNOSTICATE

PROCRASTINATE

POLYPHAGIA

MORPHOGENESIS

GASTRODUODENOSTOMY

So there you have six words picked at random and I could rattle on for pages about words I like
but our Mary Poppins days should bring the reminder of the big one

supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Such a big word and young ones can let if all from their tongue without any problem at all which confirms with me that the best time to teach words, language and foreign languages is when the children are small.

Enjoy finding the meanings of these words and be ever on the look out and listen for new words to add to your vocabulary - we used to always have a "word of the day" - planning this takes a little effort but can be lots of fun.

Find a word - introduce it to the family with its meaning and then encourage everyone to use it in conversation some time during the day.

In a later blog I shall share my 10 favourite words.

Love and hugs,
Linda.

DID YOU AND YOUR FATHER SHARE AN INTEREST IN ANYTHING?

A pile of "to be read" books.

My father and I shared many things in common - the love of books and reading was one of them.  He loved poetry too and we would often recite pieces together - he would start and I would join in and finish the poem.  Right until the night before he died we did this and that night we recited Masefield's "Sea Fever" and I never heard his voice again after he had told me to drive carefully and ring to let him know I was home safely.

He loved the sea - she was his Mistress for sure and I love to spend hours by the sea in all seasons of the year, to hear the lapping of the water, feel the salt sea mist upon my face and be captivated by the moving tides.  We both loved words and spent many hours discussing and debating issues and although we often would not agree we would agree to disagree, but he liked to have the last word.  He was kind and generous and not without fault - but he was my Dad and I loved him.

He was my Dad and I was "Edward's Girl" and we both shared a love of people and life.

Love and hugs,
Linda.

Why do you write?

Why do I write?

Writing comes as naturally as breathing to me and I write to express my thoughts and feelings, I write to correspond with people - yes there are those among us who do use "snail mail"

I write because it brings me release and comfort and also stores memories outside of my brain.  I write because I love words - I am a 'logophile' and I also love books so I am a 'bibliophile' too.

I write because I can and because I have the time to do so - it brings me joy and the writing I do often brings comfort to others.,

I think therefore I write.

Love and hugs,
